MINERAL OILS AND GREASES

Mineral oils and
greases

Mineral oils and greases are fatty substances of various natures obtained from the distillation of petroleum, used in countless applications across a wide range of industries, including lubricant formulations in the industrial sector, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

We differentiate between two main groups where bleaching earths play a significant role in their production process:

Wax and
paraffin purification

This is a process in which impurities such as oils, colorants, and aromatic compounds are removed through a demanding purification process involving hydrogenation at high pressure and temperature, followed by filtration using bleaching earths like Sepigel®, to achieve products suitable for their final use.

Regeneration of Used Lubricating Oils

This involves the recycling of used oils, where additives, water, metals, and other sediments formed during the oil’s usage that affect its performance are removed through acid treatment, neutralization, and bleaching with bleaching earths like Sepigel®, which are separated from the regenerated oil by filtration.

Sepigel Range

Sepigel® has developed a complete range of bleaching earths, widely used in the bleaching and purification processes of mineral oils and greases, thanks to the excellent adsorbent properties of these clays.

The treatment with these earths results in purified oils and greases with greater stability and a longer life cycle, meeting the stringent specifications required in today’s markets for coatings, cosmetic products, personal hygiene, pharmaceuticals, or food.
